Your child may be referred for services by his/her pediatrician. If your child is a late-talker, is unintelligible and substitutes sounds when compared to same-aged peers, has a limited vocabulary, has poor spelling, poor writting, poor reading and comprehension skills, is receiving poor grades in school, is at risk for not passing a grade, is below grade-level expectations, is unable to follow directions, and/or is having difficulties with concepts (i.e. big/little, open/close, between/around, etc.), then he/she may have a speech, language, and/or reading disorder. Please contact the office for more information.
The frequency and duration of therapy is based on the inital evaluation and authorization from the pediatrician. Typically, therapy occurs 2-3 times a week for 30-60 minute sessions. Therapy services are authorized for 6 month periods, and then a re-evaluation occurs to determine if further therapy is needed. The length of time a client receives therapy services depends on the nature of the problem and the goals of therapy. Some clients have a very specific problem that can be worked on through a set course in therapy. For others, therapy is an on-going learning process.
